Musings From the Mystic Path
The Month of January
Happy New Year!
Welcome to the beginning of another year, 2018! This is the year of finding your way in the world and casting aside the complexity that has weighed us down throughout the months. Think of this month as the potential for any new beginning that you wish to undertake.
And, let it begin with simplicity. Less is more and allows the space for more to fill – in time. This month’s issue is a reflection of this space of simplicity. You will find less than usual in this issue; which allows you, the dear reader to fill the space with your own creative endeavors. Sit in silence, write something of beauty, sing yourself to sleep, dance just because, paint your beauty for all to see.
We, of Coven of the Mystic Path, wish our readers and their friends and families a prosperous, healthy and creative-filled New Year! Next month our regular columns and more will continue….
“This bright new year is given me
To live each day with zest
To daily grow and try to be
My highest and my best!”
-William Arthur Ward-
January, the 1st month of the New Year gets its name from the Roman God, Janus. He is usually pictured with two faces which connect at the back of the head. Festivals to celebrate Janus were held in Rome on New Year’s Day. His image is used on doorways, arches or gates, known as the God of beginnings. The faces of Janus remind us to look back at the past year, our accomplishments and to make New Year’s resolutions for this year. Every ending has a new beginning.
The Winter Solstice has passed; the Yule tree and twinkling lights have been put away. It’s time to set your goals for the New Year. Set up a calendar and get organized. Select the new classes to take, plan projects or skills to learn for work and decide what herbs you will plant in the garden this Spring.
The Moon is Full on January 1st the perfect time for a Full Moon ritual of releasing, cleansing and making a fresh start. Full yourself with the power of this Moon’s energy and allow inspiration to spark your imagination.
“Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.”
Snow Fell Silently
Snow fell silently
In the morning light.
Soft shapes glistening
Carried on breath’s
Ice glass shards
Pillowing green stalks.
Snow fell silently
Breath held in
“Year’s end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us.”
A Little Divination for the New Year
About this spread:
With the dawning of a New Year, there are many ways to welcome this fresh start. This astrological spread is a way of accessing information that can be used throughout the year as the Sun transits from one astrological sign to the next. The emphasis is on you standing at the center of the Great Wheel as the Sun and Moon. I’ve chosen to share and use this spread as the start of the New Year, but you can begin the process or start anew at any point in time during the year.

In Conclusion and, to repeat…..
“Be so warm that people mistake you for the sun; so bright that people mistake you for the stars; and so accommodating that people mistake you for the universe.” -Matshona Dhliwayo-
