Vol. 2 – Issue 4

Musings From the Mystic Path
The Month of August
Taking It Easy!

This month we’re all taking it easy, before the start of Fall, holidays and more. This issue is a gift to stimulate the senses with some beautiful images and poetry. Our regular articles- Tesseract and Seekers on the Path will return next month.  So, in the words of Jackson Browne…

“Lighten up while you still can, don’t even try to understand.
Just find a place to make your stand, and take it easy.”
– Jackson Browne –

The Storm

by M.H.

Sunlight begins to fade,
Dark clouds swiftly invade.

Across the sky brilliant lightning flashes
The cat see’s the blowing curtains and
Under the bed it dashes.

A clap of thunder startles me
The rain falls fast and floods
The street as far as I can see.

Minutes later the sun rolls out
From behind the clouds, shining
A soft, cool breeze stirs the air,
I lean back in my chair reclining.

The cat reappears and its yawning
We both silently watch the raindrops
Drip from the porch awning.

“Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will no withdraw from us.”
— Maya Angelou –

Alone?

by L.K.

There’s someone here with me.
I look around. There’s no one.

Uneasily, I pet the cat and pick up my book.
I see movement to me left.

Someone walked past.
I turn my head to look.
There’s no one.

Heart racing, I check each room,
Quietly asking “Who’s there?”
Just me and the cats.

My brain tells me to calm down.
“You’re imaging things, it’s no one.”

Once more I pick up my book
Heart rate slowing.

No One and I sit in companionable silence…..

“It’s not that I’m a Type-B personality.
It’s that I’m driven by a passionate,
all-consuming desire to take it easy.”
– Robert Breault –

“My dear, old age is like an airplane flying in a storm. Once you’re in it there’s nothing you can do. You can’t stop a plane, you can’t stop a storm, you can’t stop time. So you might as well take it easy, with wisdom.”
– Golda Meir –

Sitting on the Porch

Sit back and relax! Imagine yourself sitting on the porch of your house that is at the edge of the woods. The left over fragrance of a satisfying meal wafts through the screen door and you settle into your favorite cushioned seat.

The sound of crickets fills the air and there is just an ever so slight thread of chill air that heralds the coming of Autumn. But, for now you are content to sit quietly and serenely looking out at the stone path that leads ahead.

You breathe in deeply, now.  The scent of woods at dusk, moisture rising and flowers that are just hidden on the other side of the fence fill your nostrils. You look out at the trail of lights and hand crafted lanterns that light the path and imagine them to be sparkles of starlight that have come to grace your yard.

In this moment of taking it easy, the world ceases its dizzying rush and you meld into the calm of Mother Earth’s gifts…..

“Like water, we are truest to our nature in repose.”
– Cyril Connolly –

There and Back Again…

Take a stroll over there. The bridge waits to support your steps and a new adventure awaits on the other side. I promise it will be worth your time……

Oh! It is breathtaking, quiet and seems to be a world away from stress and hurry. Walk a little ways on the soft and lush grass…

Ah, this is perfect. A quiet place to sit and watch the world move past. This is magical. This is being alive…

Quiet, now… Shh… Oh what beauty and grace. What power of nature’s creation. I am the honored guest in this world of nature….

Light spills down and reminds me of the cool shade that nature provides and offers the glimpse of magnetic splendor. I am energized – I am whole – I am all the particles of the Sun that filter through the leaves…

Time calls me back. One more glimpse. One more breath to fill my lungs with nature’s bounty. One more step…..

And, I am back again. Not the same as the one who travelled this bridge just minutes ago. No, I am changed. I am whole. I am at peace. I Am, finally, ALIVE!

“Trees are poems the earth writes upon the sky.”
– Khalil Gibran –

In Conclusion…..

Put your feet up
Lean back into the
Cool softness of
Your favorite chair.

Sun’s gone down
And night closes in
Cool and comforting
As it calls you to rest.

Stretch and yawn
Opening up to
Embrace the day’s end.

There will be time enough
Tomorrow to do all that
Needs doing..

But, for now…
Lay back
Look up at the stars
And
Take It Easy…
